Do It For Love

“You have to understand that love never keeps a man from pursuing his personal legend. If he abandons that pursuit it’s because it wasn’t true love...the love that speaks the Language of The World” I very much agree with this quote from The Alchemist(pg )

I believe with what it’s saying. Love should never keep you from pursuing your dreams or personal legends in life. Like for instance, since I love my parents and my parents love me I should be able to pursue my personal legends and dreams. Because if it’s something I really want to achieve then they’ll no and they’ll let me go and achieve it.  I’m sure it would be really hard for my parents since I’ve been with them my whole life, and I’m just there “little girl”. But they love me and want what’s best for me. As the saying goes, “ If you really love someone set them free.”

Having said that I’m not quite sure I’d be able to do the same. Of course I would want to let someone I love fulfill his/her personal legend, but just the thought of them leaving me is terrifying. It’s hard to imagine not being able to talk to them or just hang out with them. Especially since their personal legend could take months even years to fulfill! l But I wouldn’t want to be a hypocrite and believe that someone that loves me could let me fulfill my dreams and personal legends but I couldn’t do the same. Like the quote says if it’s true love I’ll let them go. I don’t believe there is limitations to this statement because if it’s true love than  its true love. If there was limitations to this statement then it wouldn't be true, or the love just wasn’t true. That’s why I agree with this quote from the Alchemist

A Whole Different Story

“Making a decision was only the beginning of things.” I agree and disagree with this quote in a couple of different ways.

Making a decision to me isn’t always only the beginning of what you’re deciding to do. Like for instance, if I was debating whether to paint my room blue, or purple and I ended up painting it blue then that’s basically all I need to do. I mean sure I’ll still need to paint it but that was my only real decision I had to make, it was my first and finally choice. That’s what I would have thought before I read the Alchemist. But reading it has made me see that everything has a bigger purpose. Using the same example, if I chose to paint my room blue than it could only be the beginning. Then I would have to find a new bedspread to match the new color, and I would have to pick out new furniture and so forth. So I could use that example to agree that making a decision is and isn’t always the beginning of things.
Kids our age don’t always think about the decisions we make. Maybe some people think that they don’t need to finish their homework or pay attention in class, since we’re only in middle school and it won’t make a difference in the long run. But truth be told it could make a difference. If I decided not to pay attention in class one day or to not turn in an assignment it could make a difference because I would be behind in school work and I wouldn’t know how to do the assignment. Another example that I think can only be argued one way is deciding on something big, like what I want to be when I grow up. Deciding on something like that really is just the beginning. After, I chose what I want to be I still have to make it happen. Like by going to college and getting a degree, then once I graduate college I will have to find a job. Once I find a job I’ll still have to work hard to be good at it. So the whole thing might take a while, but looking back on the decision I made in the beginning I’m sure I’ll be happy because it was something I really wanted and worked hard to get.

So for me it all depends on what the decision it is you are making. Little things like what shoes you are going to wear for the day isn’t always the start of something big. But deciding something permanent like an occupation could be a whole different story.

Drops Of Life

My drops of oil personally are my friends and family. They mean absolutely everything to me. If I didn’t have my family to help me through all the ups and downs in life, who knows where I’d be now?

What exactly are drops of oil. To me drops of oil mean the things in life that are important to you. The things that you never want to forget in life. That’s why I think mine are my friends and family.”The secrets of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon.”(pg 34) the wise man had said in the Alchemist. And that quote is very true. When I grow up I want to be able to travel around the world. I just think there’s so much to see, and that if I stay in one spot for my whole life I’ll be missing out. The world is an amazing place! Along with wanting to travel I don’t want to forget my drops of oil. I will not forget my family. They are the ones I have lived with for my whole life, and will live with before I’ll be able to travel around the world.

I have many ways to make sure I won’t spill, forget my drops of oil. One of them is I’m sure I’ll always want to come back to my childhood home. It was where I was born and raised. I’ll still have my family friends and grandparents to come visit. Another reason I won’t spill my drops is I have younger siblings. My baby sister means the world to me. I’m going to want to see her throughout her growing stages. I’ll always have to come back to see her in middle school and high-school. Plus I’m still her big sister, she’ll probably want some sisterly advice. And lastly, my mom. My mom helps me through everything. She’s always there for me, whenever I need her. So I’ll always be there for her!

I’m really glad the Alchemist brought up that point about never losing your drops of oil. Because now that I have thought about it. I’ll never forget mine.

TRASH

Trash

What is trash?
Do we really know
old food, pieces of poo?
To other people it might not seem
just as people’s leftover boxes of old ice cream
It’s way way more...
It’s money and pesos
not rubbish and slime
Trash is how they stay alive
They dig through it day and night
Until three boys find something not usual to sight
It’s a bag...just a bag is what it seemed
Until the police came questioning
and making up schemes
Money is what they offered
They knew it wasn't true
So they ran with the bag
Into the blue
They slowly started putting the mystery together
with no education they were still very clever
With the dead at their sides
They dug up a grave
To find not a body
But money instead
They solved the mystery
But they still had to go
So Pia, Raphael, Gardo and Rat
Went to Sampalo
And that is that!

Trash Response Questions Two

1.)I think Olivia's perspective on money  is dead on. Money is what makes the world go round, and that's not necessarily a good thing. Money is the thing that separates everyone. Like the people in Behala. The people without money have to dig in the trash dump sites for a living. The analogy Olivia said was amazing. especially the part that said, " Nobody knows the value of water until they've lived in a dry dry place..." Behala would be a dry place because they don't have a lot of money. I think the experience of Behala has changed her in a very beneficial way. She has seen what it is like to live in a bad environment. She knows what it is like to struggle to stay alive. I think she will take all the things she has seen and put it to good use.

2.) Well...there are two articles that are really against Zapanta and that is the Daily Star and the University Voice. In the Daily Star it questions why there would be ten million dollars in his house. It states that everyone needs to-go money but ten million dollars is a little much. The Daily Star then says that maybe someone is either not paying his taxes or stealing other peoples. The University Voice says basically the same thing, it questions why he would keep millions of dollars in his house. Then the students say that the county could still move forward but with a new vice president, someone new and young. But the other article tried to defend him. The Star Extra talks about how Zapanta got stolen from and how it wasn’t his fault. It said that it was probably from someone that worked for him.

3. I think Andy Mulligan would end the book like that because it really tied everything together. It was the day of the dead so Orlandriz and Angelico could help them. And there was so many people there, they could just blend in with the crowd. There were two sides of the cemetery so it still separates rich and poor, even to the death.

Trash Questions

1. The conditions of the prison were sad. There were tons of cages stacked up on top of each other. The cages were small just big enough for a short man to stand in them. It was also very hot in the room with all the cages. All the men and children were sweating and asking for water. Children could be in prison because maybe they were very poor and they stole food or water from different people.

2. Olivia paid the 10,000 pesos to get into the prison. Which was a bribe. Olivia  smoothed things over with the social worker by telling him her name which was basically the same as his. That’s when she bribed them with the 10,000 pesos.

3. Raphael learned that Rat actually has a decent amount of money. Rat said that people give him a little bit of money here and there and he saves it up. He also learned that Rats from Sampalo and he wants to go back their once he saves up 50,000 pesos. He says he’s that he’s going to buy a boat and fish for the rest of his life.

4. The gardener explains to Raphael and Rat how Jose Angelico stole the money. He said the the Senator asked Angelico to order a new fridge, which he did and then to dump the old one. But instead of dumping it Angelico asked the movers to drop it off right where they were, which was a cemetery. Then nobody ever say him again. The gardener said that people think he put the money in the fridge then ran away.

5. What would I do with six million dollars...I would definitely  use it wisely. I would donate some to charity first of all. Then I would probably by my parents a house. Then with the left overs I would spend it shopping, and doing fun things with my friends.

Respectful Addie

Respectful Addie

How would it feel if you went to school everyday expecting to get bullied? Well that’s how it felt to a group of four called the “Misfits.” James Howe author of The Misfits shows how not everyone fits in at school but they can still make big changes. The misfits get called too many names and they finally decided they want to put an end to it. One of the Misfits, I guess you could call her the leader, is Addie Carle. Addie has a very buoyant personality. Bobby Goodspeed thinks on page (16) “Addie does not keep her thoughts inside her head like private property with a no trespassing sign up. She puts it out there and says deal with it world!” But having strong opinions on everything isn’t always a good thing. This sometimes can come off as disrespectful. Which is true, Addie does have a hard time showing respect but eventually she becomes more respectful.
Addie shows a couple of reasons of disrespect. One of them is to her teacher Ms. Wyman. Ms. Wyman asks everyone to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance... Addie doesn't stand. Once they finish saying the Pledge, Ms. Wyman asks why she did not stand. As written on pages( 18-20) Addie says the Pledge obviously says “liberty and Justice for all”  which she and many others think is not true. She states that the New York Times says that in New York you can’t walk through the streets as a black man without having the word “Guilty” on your forehead. Therefore, that is not liberty and justice for all! Page(20) Addie says, “I will not utter empty words,false- hoods and lies!” Now Addie might be right about what she’s saying but she could have showed it in a more respectful way. Another example is when Addie specifically goes against Ms. Wyman’s words and makes a third party, for the election. Ms Wyman told Addie NO but Addie went forth with the third party idea. She wanted it to be the Freedom Party. But she knew she wouldn’t be able to do it just with her and her friends. She needed “popular” people in it. So when the misfits, had their forum she stated the idea of having DuShawn as the president, one because he’s popular and two because he’s black. Addie didn’t realize what she’s doing is disrespectful to DuShawn.  But DuShawn tells Addie what she’s doing is wrong. (pg263) “ Girl you funny kind of color blind. You see the color of my skin but you don’t see anything else about me, you wanted me to run for president because I’m black.” Addie doesn't always realize what she says can come off as rude. But she apologizes to Dushawn and tells him she didn’t mean it.
After that Addie becomes  more respectful. One way she show respect is to her friend Bobby Goodspeed. Bobby and her had been talking with Ms. Wyman and the principle about the third party. Usually Addie is the one to take control but Bobby decides to do the talking and its a good thing too because they let them keep the third party.  Bobby thought Addie would be mad at him but when they come out of the office she's not mad at all.  She's actually glad(pg190). "That was so cool Bobby way to go! "That was definitely showing respect to Bobby for giving him a chance to speak for a change. Another example was when Addie and Bobby were writing the speech  for the election together, Addie read Bobby's and she loved it. And she tells Bobby that he's the one who has to read it in front of the whole school. That was a big step for Addie she usually has to do everything herself. That was showing trust and respect. Because she was trusting he wouldn't chicken out and she was respecting his speech.
People use respect everyday everywhere.  It is a really important thing. It keeps people from breaking out into fights all the time. Addie definitely had her ups and downs during the book but I think over all she became a very respectful person.
THE END!!

Which Phone is Best?

    Which Phone Is Best?
Madison

It’s the battle against the “S’s”. The iPhone 4S and the Galaxy S II. I want one of these two phones because their both very portable, faster Internet, and they have more qualities than my phone. I found this comparison by Goggling “ iPhone 4s vs Galaxy S.” Then a comparison chart came up on the website Redmond Pie. But the main question is, which phone would be better for me.?
Both phones have there similarities. There both around $200.00, and have dual core processors but the iPhone has a processor from Apple and the Galaxy S II has one from Samsung. But the Galaxy weighs less. Its weighs 4.3 ounces while the iPhone 4s weighs 4.9 ounces, but that’s still not that big of a difference. They both have a lot of storage. But the iPhone 4S can have up to 64GB and the Galaxy can only go up to 48GB

But they also have their differences.  Like one big plus for the iPhone is that it has global roaming, which means if I go out of the country I won’t get charged extra if I talk. Another big difference is that the Galaxy runs on 4G network and the iPhone 4s runs on 3G, which means the Galaxy has faster Internet.  The Galaxy’s screen size is smaller, its 4.5 inches and the iPhone is 3.5. But that could be a good thing or a bad thing. If you like having a bigger screen than that's the iPhone but if you like having a smaller screen and phone than the Galaxy would be better. For me that really doesn’t matter so it could go either way. But how indestructible the phone is does matter. I looked online to see which phone was more indestructible, and it said that the Galaxy has Gorilla Glass and the iPhone has soda-lime glass. Then the company took a test and dropped each phone three times on concrete. In the end the Galaxy only had a couple of scratches but the iPhone had cracks everywhere. So that’s a big plus to the Galaxy since I’ll probably end up dropping it at least once.

Both phones have a lot of different features about them. They both have front and back cameras which is nice, and video editing. The also both have WiFi. The battery life is both eight hours of talk time. And if you want to download Apps or games than you can download them at app stores. They also both have really good speakers for music.

All in all both phones are really good and have some ups and downs to them, but ultimately I chose the iPhone 4s. Even though it didn't win the indestructible test it just means I'll have to be more careful. But I liked how it has global roaming and how it weighs a little more so I'll always know when it's in my pocket. Personally I'm glad with my over all decision.

Immortals, Movie Review

                                   Movie: Immortals   Rating Scale______# # # # #________
CriteriaRatingComments
acting/characters# # # The actors were o.k they could have gotten into the mood of the movie a little more
plot line# # The plot line was just death. Yes it was about finding the Epirius bow and King Hyperion wanting to release the titans but there was so much gore it took away from the main plot.
Mood# # # The mood was interesting. It wasn't exactly happy but it wasn’t bad either. It was tense. Everyone basically just tried not to get killed
directing# # # The directing could of used  some work. It was a little dull and not suspenseful enough. You could kind of predict what would happen. But some of the scenes were exciting  and had nice  angles.
location# # # # The location was actually really interesting. I liked all the rocky cliffs and dessert plans. I especially liked were they lived on the side of a cliff it definitely got my attention and made me watch the movie.
special effects# # # The special effects were satisfying. They had some really nice effects sometimes when they were fighting but other times it just seemed to fake and to much blood.

                    Movie Review: Immortals

The movie Immortals by far was one of the goriest movies I’ve seen. The brutal King Hyperion played by Mickey Roukre wants to find the lost bow of Hpirus. It doesn’t matter whats in his way he will destroy any and everything, at least that’s what he thought. Until he came upon a certain village. Hyperion was about to kill a frail women when all of a sudden Theseus(Henry Cavil) jumps out and kills all of King Hyperion’s men around him. But Hyperion then strikes and kills Theseus’s mother. Hyperion being the generous man he is decides not to kill Theseus and to let him live with the pain of his mother being gone. But he does get taken hostage and will be put to work. Theseus then  escapes with the help of the oracle and seeks revenge. Now, this movie sounds exciting and suspenseful, but don’t get your hopes up it was a big let down.

One thing that was surprisingly bad was the turn out of the plot line. The plot line itself  sounded exciting, but it didn’t turn out that way. The characters fell short for me. Theseus was exciting at times but it seemed a little dull. He didn’t seem...sad. His mother died and a war is about to brake out and he doesn’t show any emotion about being sad. Also there was so much gore that it took away from the suspense and acting. Almost every scene there was blood or guts. I was expecting it to be gory because that is  why it was rated R but I wasn’t expecting  that much. Also no surprises or curve balls were thrown at us. I think if there was a twist it could have been a much better movie. That would have given it a little more suspense. The directing could have used some work too. As I said about the plot line there was no suspense. The directing I think could have helped that as well. He could have made the scenes different. Every scene was predictable. He could have changed it up a bit. At least that’s what I think.

But the special effects and location were amazing, the location especially. Theseus and his village lived on the side of a cliff, literally. There was an indent in the cliff and they made their homes there. That was really exciting to see. And in the different scenes it was nice to see what type of land form they were in. Sometimes they were traveling through rocky mountains but other times like in the main war scene half were inside the gate and castle and the other half was on a flat clear dusty plane. It was cool to see the transition.  The special effects were amazing as well. When the gods would fly down from above it was awesome to see the wave of force they brought. I especially liked the part when Poseidon( Kellan Klutz) flew down to help Theseus and landed in the ocean leaving a giant title wave killing Hyperion’s men. Certain things like that draws the viewers attention.

Over all Immortals  wasn’t my favorite. There was to much gore and not enough suspense. But there were certain things that at least kept it from being an O.K movie.

                THE END!!
